Keeping Warm in the Nude.

Keeping Warm in the Nude.
Keeping Warm in the Nude. by Natasha Kutrovacz featuring tall boots

Pulling out the sweater one last time (hopefully) before the summer weather makes its presence. It was a chilly morning so I slipped on my giant and comfy "old man" sweater as I call it. I really wanted the colors in my scarf to pop, so I kept my outfit very neutral. Easy hair and minimal make up always call for red lipstick, if you can find it!

Welcome to Hollywood.

I'm excited to share with you the first phase of photos for S/S 2011's "Hollywood" Collection.
I spent all Sunday morning and afternoon in Hollywood, of course, modeling this collection.  The weather was perfect and it was a ton of fun.  There's no place like Hollywood.  I have to say it's an interesting city composed of dreamers.  Its got edge, grime, pizazz, and is crawling with musicians and artists alike.  You can get away with anything when it comes style.  You haven't seen it all until you've experienced Hollywood!

The "Hollywood" Collection was inspired by the raw edge that comes natural to this city.  It's city doesn't have to try, for it's earned its reputation and now it is what it is.  I've tried to take sense of "badass" mixed with rock n' roll and transform it into a collection of jewelry that you can wear with empowerment.  It has edge and it's chic.  It's simple, but it makes a powerful statement.  One that will last.

For a fun and easy outfit that keeps you relaxed and looking cool, slip on a grey tee-shirt dress and pin it at the waist with stylish belt. Drafting up a design.

It can be a very lengthy, sometimes drawn out process.  Design, in my opinion, is a process that shouldn't be forced.  That makes it difficult because when it's your job to design and create, you sometimes need to push the ideas out.  Thats when inspiration comes in handy.  To keep the process organic, you need to be inspired.

Part of the purpose behind The Garage Gypsy is to share with you what happens behind the scenes, sharing with you what inspires me, and how my jewelry fuses with fashion.  I must admit, I have been slacking because, turns out, its a daunting task!  The truth is, it's hard to keep up with and track all that inspires, and if I decided to write about it all, I'd be living life twice and never have time to sleep.  And let me tell you, sleep is a very important necessity of mine.  I'm a slough without sleep.  That and exercise.  Nothing gets the mojo going like a good intense workout!

My "Palm Springs" Collection was very desert inspired.  I imagined pieces with clean lines and a basic color palette that would pop amongst the sand.  The basic elements were derived from a geometric form giving the collection a rather modern appearance.  This was then fused with a very natural southwest -almost Native American color and design scheme.  It was created with the concept of freedom.  I wanted to give the wearer that liberating feeling of an open road where nothing is more important than having fun and just feeling beautiful inside your own skin.

And, of course, the design process at Garage Gypsy doesn't end after the jewelry is crafted.  We try to put together a whole package that shares our happiness and excitement.  Each piece is carefully packed in its linen pouch and natural kraft box for protection.  The box is tied in vibrant colored cotton string with a pretty bow, because after all, it's a present for you and you're special :)

On the Streets of Paris during Fashion Week.

How can't you not love this.  Looking at the fabulously dressed, makes me want to immediately hop onto a plane and jet across the seas to Europe.  Milan, Paris, London...I want to explore them so badly!

I couldn't help observing all of the long sheer silk and chiffon skirts.  Love it!  Get ready to see more.

I'm making this a quick post!  I just finished a delicious corn beef sandwich on toasted sourdough.  Now I have to run off to the gym and burn some cals, before meeting a few of my gal pals at a local bar for a Guinness.  I may have forgotten to wear my green, but I haven't forgotten how to celebrate St. Patrick's Day :)  Happy St. Patties to you all! xo

Perfect for a low key day of work in the Beverly Hills office.

Inspiration: 80's Film

A new inspiration.
I just watched St. Elmo's Fire, a 1985 feature starring Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Demi Moore, and Andrew McCarthy for the first time last week.  Netflix directly to your television is pretty amazing.  Its a great companion when working.  I'm a total 80's flick girl.  Most modern-day MTV/reality TV is such a bore to me.  I see more artistic expression and authentic energy in older movies and television shows.

I absolutely loved Rob Lowe's style in St. Elmo's Fire.  He rocked cross shaped earring in one ear, that I fell in love with.  I took note.  Men, you should too.

Funny thing is, last night I attended a wrap-party at The Hudson for a new Lifetime feature, where I saw a gentleman in a fabulous get-up rocking a single tusk earring.  I hope to see more of this in the future!

Always Inspiring me.
ALEX in FLASHDANCE

I watched Flashdance for the first time when I was a Junior or Senior in high school.  In short, it changed my life.  Okay, not completely, but it has been an inspiration in more than one way.  Upon watching Flashdance I instantly admired Jennifer Beals' character, 'Alex.'  Of course, having danced for ten years myself, that was an instant common interest I shared with her character, but mostly I admired her independence and drive as a young woman.  I envied the life 'Alex' created for herself; her apartment, jobs, style, and dedication to a dream.  When I was seventeen, I thought- if this girl can do all this at eighteen, so can I.  And, well, that's exactly what I did, only with different ambitions, in a different city.

My daily style is still influenced by the dancer.  Jennifer Beals wears a slashed neck graffiti print t-shirt, ripped sweater, Lycra keep-fitters, torn jeans, cropped vests and pushed-down leggings for dance or slouch dress. Out and about in chilly Pennsylvania she chooses a heavy topcoat, over sized jumpers, several scarves worn at once, wide man-styled jackets (all with plentiful layering), leggings, skinny trousers, thick-soled boots, a red military dress coat, even a green army jacket with insignia patches.

MADONNA

I fell in love with Madonna and her radical style when I saw her music video for "Vogue" for the first time on 01.01.91.  Yes, I even know it down to the date.  I was just four, when I was watching the NBC New Years Countdown on TV with my parents.  In Times Squares they were projecting the top songs/music videos of 1990 onto a large screen, in which aired on TV.  Little did my parents know how much taping this hour long program would affect my style and taste in music.  Not only was I introduced to Madonna, but MC Hammer, Paula Abdul, Vanilla Ice, and Billy Idol.  I ended up loving them all, watching this VHS tape well until I was in high school.  What can I say, I love what I love.

Who inspired / inspires your style?

xxNatasha

Even when the day seems to be at its worst, you can always make yourself feel a little brighter with the right ensemble. Lavish yourself in the pretty things, the ones with a sentimental feel. Clothing can be like comfort food for the body.

True Rolling Stone.

True Rolling Stone.
True Rolling Stone. by Natasha Kutrovacz featuring leather oxford shoes

Some days, I wanna get a little edgy. When I'm feeling the urge to look a little rock n' roll, I grab my worn-out black jeans, throw on a vintage band tee, hook a single feather earring by Garage Gypsy in one ear, roll on my bright red lipstick, slip on my faded gold shoes by Report and off I go. I was born in the eighties, Madonna was an idol. My friend V and I watched Desperately Seeking Susan last night, and coincidentally, I found this Rolling Stone Mag while searching for a rolling stone tshirt. It was only natural that I include it.
